The Future: AI and Us or AI vs. Us?

What happens to us when we let AI do more of our thinking?

Artificial intelligence is changing much more than the way we do things. Little by little, it may also be transforming how we think, how we relate to others, and even how we see ourselves.

We are not neutral about AI. We have to be part of the change.

Assistance and dependence are not the same thing. Read each situation below and ask yourself honestly: would you hand this over?

There is no score and no diagnosis. The point is simply to notice where your own line sits, and whether it moves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can AI really understand how I feel?

No. AI can recognise patterns in language and respond in ways that feel empathetic, but it has no feelings, no lived experience, and no real understanding. It can be a useful sounding board, but it is not a substitute for a person who knows you.

Is using AI for emotional support a bad thing?

Not automatically. Many people find it helpful for organising their thoughts or talking through a problem at 3 a.m. The risk appears when it becomes the only place someone goes, or when it replaces professional care that is actually needed.

Does AI make us less creative?

It can go either way. Used as a tool, it can help us explore ideas faster and try things we would not have tried alone. Used as a shortcut, it can nudge everyone toward the same average answer. The difference is in how we use it.

Should I worry about becoming dependent on AI?

It is worth paying attention to. Dependence usually creeps in quietly: you start by asking occasionally, then regularly, then always. A useful question to ask yourself: could I still do this without it, if I had to?
